G Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State has performed the long-awaited Geri Alimi Diamond Underpass just as he expressed gratitude to Kwarans for their support and cooperation since the commencement of his administration eight years ago.
Speaking during the commissioning, Gov Ahmed explained that “the Geri Alimi Split Diamond Underpass is a potent symbol not only of my administration’s numerous accomplishments despite immense financial challenges but also of our vision of a more developed and aesthetically appealing state”.
Governor Ahmed explained he was pleased with his government’s administration’s achievements in the last eight years, stressing that the completion of the Geri Alimi split diamond underpass was an inspiring testimony to his government’s vision and resourcefulness.
Ahmed who recalled that Government is a continuum tasked the coming government to build on the infrastructure development of his administration with a view to making the state more prosperous.
Alhaji Ahmed who simultaneously commissioned 24 other road projects across the state, explained that the Underpass would go a long way to reduce traffic burden experienced by motorists plying the route particularly during peak-hours and rainy season.
According to him, the project will also give the State a new look, enhance commercial and investment activities and boost the inflow of goods and services into the State.
He also maintained that the completion of the Geri Alimi Split Diamond Underpass and the other road projects provides the most persuasive answer to those who question the utilization of taxes paid by the hardworking residents of the State.
He noted that a Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) system is installed at strategic locations at the Underpass and the Roundabout to ensure security at the Underpass while a standby automatic generating set is also installed to provide power and electricity at night and for the CCTV operation at Geri-Alimi area.
He added that the state government had awarded the contract for the second section of this three-phase project and the contractor had mobilized to site and is already working on the drainage at the designated parts of the project.
In his address, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works and Transport, Doctor Yusuf Manjo said the project would eliminate traffic congestion, cater for anticipated future traffic challenges and beautify the township.
Other road projects inaugurated simultaneously today included Sofoluwe Road, off Lajorin Road (Ilorin South Local Government, Asa-Dam Egbejila Road (Phase 1) and the flag off of Egbejila – Airport Road (Ilorin West Local Government), Sannu Shehu–Aduralere Road (Ilorin East), Oloro palace Road in Oro Town,( Irepodun Local Government), Anilelerin-Ita-Erin-Agun Road in Offa, Ipee Township Road (Oyun Local Government), Share-Oke-Ode Road (Ifelodun Local Government) Mission Road, Lafiagi ( Edu Local Government) Gerewu Road Phase I ( Ilorin West LGA) and Ogbondoroko Township Road (Asa Local Government).
